The sandstone pillars of Zhangjiajie inspired the Hallelujah Mountains in the film Avatar
This pillar was a particular inspiration and has been officially renamed Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
We stayed in the small city of Wulingyuan, gateway to the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Casual dining at Wulingyuan
On our second day in the park we did a valley walk to view the pillars from below
There are lots of monkeys (rhesus macaques) at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
These two looked to be siblings
The older one was quite protective of the younger one
Several pillars were remarkably square and looked like they'd been sliced with a sharp knife
Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge is suspended 300 metres above the canyon. Jacqueline stands bravely on the first pane
Despite her fear, she survived several seconds on the glass high above the canyon
The bridge walk is part of a range of thrill-seeker activities in the Grand Canyon Scenic Area, including cliff rope walks, zip lines, bungee jumping and mountain slides
The cliff walkways on Tianmen Mountain provide amazing views right around the mountain
It's hard to imagine how they built the cliff-hugging paths around Tianmen Mountain
